You could probably use a mod that adds a dodge with iframes to make the combat at least superficially engaging, but you're never going to fix the problem of every enemy being the exact same fight with the only differentiating factors being the HP and damage values with the system as it is.
All I can do is hope TES 6 will move on to a proper hitbox based system.Įdit: Looking more closely at the screenshots for that mod, I was probably wrong about the raycasts specifically coming from the camera, but it definitely seems to be the case that the only considerations being made are line of sight and distance from the character. While it does sound like an improvement to at least cap the values to a reasonable approximation of what the range of each weapon type should be, it doesn't fix the fundamental issue of the hit detection having nothing to do with the attack animations.
